Our Programs
Supporting children through free after-school programs that blend soccer, poetry, and community projects.
Our Programs
Canada SCORES uses a unique combination of soccer, poetry, and community projects to create a singular comprehensive program that emphasizes physical activity, health and wellness, self-expression, academic engagement, and community involvement. Our year-round programming inspires children & youth to lead healthy lives and gain the confidence to make changes in their communities.
Children participate in our SCORES programming after school with time allocated to both classroom work focusing on literacy, poetry, and community service, and additional time dedicated to practicing and playing soccer. Registration for Canada SCORES occurs by referral through individual schools.
If you’re interested in your child joining Canada SCORES, please inquire with your child’s school to see if our programming is a match for your family.
If you are a school or school district staff member and are interested in bringing Canada SCORES to your community, please contact the SCORES affiliate in your region.
SCORES Core Programming
Our Core Poet-Athletes meet after school throughout the week for 90 minutes each session throughout the entire school year. They spend their time on the field, in the classroom, and in the community. In the fall semester, our classroom activities are focused on poetry, creative writing, and self-expression while in the winter and spring semesters, participants apply these creative and communicative skills to a community project they research, design, and implement.
*Core Program includes students in grades 3-5 (Toronto) and 4-5 (Vancouver)
SCORES in Action (SiA) Programming
Our SiA Poet-Athletes meet 1-2 days a week for 90 minutes each day. In addition to soccer, they will be using the "One Hen" curriculum based on an award-winning children’s book One Hen: How One Small Loan Made a Big Difference.
This curriculum challenges youth to start their own social enterprise/small business. The goal is to not only provide a safe and supportive environment, but also to equip them with the necessary skills in leadership, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and to give back to their local and/or global communities.
*Currently only available in BC. SiA serves students in grades 6-7
