Your Support Has Made an Impact!
I am sending this note to share a progress update regarding the 2024 expansion of Canada SCORES into the Greater Toronto Area. We take our responsibility as the 12th of 13 SCORES Affiliate chapters across North America, very seriously, and are committed to long-term sustainable growth and impact in our communities.
The following timeline will provide a glimpse into the milestone markers we have achieved with early support from the corporate, sport, education, and philanthropic communities.
January 2nd, 2024: Officially “Open for Business”
Winter / Spring 2024: 1st & 2nd Phase Approval with a GTA School Board
Spring / Summer 2024: 3rd Phase Draft Partnership Agreement –School Board
July 28th, 2024: Inaugural SCORES Cup Corporate Soccer Tournament Sets SCORES (1st Year Affiliate) Record, Raising $100,000.00 with 22 teams
Fall 2024: Agreement Executed with the DDSB & Canada SCORES Toronto’s 1st Ever FREE After School Programs to Launch in two communities within the Durham Region of the GTA
The financial support of past donors across the Lower Mainland of BC to our Founding Canadian Affiliate, Canada SCORES Vancouver, played a significant role in our organization’s expansion to new markets within Canada. You have helped us get the ball rolling!
The tremendous early support and encouragement from the sports and business communities across the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario has helped fuel our efforts to make meaningful connections, create mutually beneficial partnerships, and raise vital funds to support our expansion efforts and serve more vulnerable children through our unique program. We are so excited to meet our first Poet-Athletes here in the GTA and support their social and emotional learning and development through our FREE after school programming.
Looking forward, as our newest Poet-Athletes will soon be working through our curriculum, developing new-found levels of confidence, and creating their own original poems to tell their stories, we hope to welcome community partners and supporters to the first ever “Canada SCORES Toronto Poetry Slam” early in the New Year.
We are already welcoming our Advisory Committee members back to start planning the 2nd Annual SCORES Cup Corporate Soccer Tournament that will take place in late July at the Zanchin Automotive Soccer Centre – the Home of Soccer in Ontario! Please circle your calendar now!
Today, on November 1st, 2024, Canada SCORES Toronto is launching our Year-End Giving Campaign. Through the month of November, we will share reminders and encouragement across our communities about Giving Tuesday, the Internationally recognized day of giving in support of nonprofit organizations and causes worldwide that takes place on December 3rd. We would welcome your support in the build-up to Giving Tuesday, and throughout the month of December through your generous gift.

As we recently celebrated 10 years of impact in Vancouver, and 30 years since our Founding by Canadian Julie Kennedy in Washington DC as a FIFA World Cup Legacy Program, we are so excited for what the future holds for us.
